OBJECTIVE

"Our ideal is a new birth of humanity into the spirit; our life must be a spiritually inspired effort to create a body of action for that great new birth and creation."

To accomplish this lofty goal envisaged by Sri Aurobindo, we must

  • Inspire the youth to find their aim in life and assist them in realising it.
  • Awaken the youth to their great future and prepare them, spiritually and materially, to play their true role in all aspects of collective life.
  • Make the youth conscious of the spiritual heritage and glorious mission of India and work for human unity in a rich and organised diversity.
  • Aspire for the evolution of a new man and the advent of a new world based on the vision of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother.

It is the young whom we must prepare, guide and educate so that they can shoulder and carry out with dynamism and sincerity the work which will some day lead to a happier and a better world for all.

ACTIVITIES

There are no rigid rules or programmes fixed for activities of the Youth Council. To accomplish the goal we have set for ourselves, each member can prepare himself or herself by

  • Trying to practise the sadhana of the Integral Yoga.
  • Aspiring to manifest in one's daily life, the ideals of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother.
  • Participating in the activities of the Society and its Youth Council according to his or her interests, capacities and convenience.

All activities can be undertaken but they must be given a new orientation and blossom spontaneously with the culture, conditions, temperament and peculiar factors of each place. It is not the number of activities taken up that matters but the attitude and the consciousness with which they are conducted.

Some suggestions for activities are enlisted:

Education including Physical education, Cultural activities including Dance, Drama, Music, activities for Children, Study Circles, Youth Camps, Health Programmes, Seminars, Publications, Exhibitions, Preparation of Audio Visual Materials, Research, Agriculture, Auroservice, Work Offerings at Centres, etc.

At present regular youth camps and children's camps are organised at Pondicherry and in other parts of India.

MEMBERSHIP

All those who are truly young may become members of the Youth Council. The Mother has said that youth is not a question of age but of attitude and spirit. To be true to the spirit of the Mother's words, no age limit has been fixed for participation in the Youth Council. The youth of all ages are invited to join the Youth Council, irrespective of their nationality, caste, creed, religion or sex.

To be a "Youth Member" implies a commitment and a very conscious choice and decision. There are no separate membership fees for "Youth Members".

To be a member of the Youth Council and to work for the accomplishment of its goal is not an ordinary calling but an enormous challenge. We invite the Youth of all ages to come forward and take up this challenge.
